AMERICAN PROTESTANT VINDICATOR. CARRIER'S ADDRESS FOR THE NEW YEAR. 1837
Author
American Protestant Vindicator
Seller

Description
New York: Craighead & Allen, Printers, corner of Ann and Nassau streets, 1837. Folio broadside, 12" x 17." Three columns of verse, each column separated by a rule, all within a decorative border. With the American Eagle flying above the title. Untrimmed, clean. Very Good plus. A contemporary review of the anti-Catholic American Protestant Vindicator: "This is the title of a paper that should be handled with the tongs, and even then with great precaution. We have not, it is true, examined it of late sufficiently to decide whether it is as filthy as ever, but we suspect it is." [Volume 1 Boston Pilot, Number 40, 27 October 1838, online at Boston College Libraries web site.] An example of the Vindicator's views, printed in this Address: "No more in our valley, shall Popery's groan / Be wrung from the Puritan's free-born child: / No more by the cruel Apostate's curse / Shall the streams of our faith be defiled -. . ." Not in Sabin, American Imprints, or on OCLC as of June 2026.
