Description
Salt Lake City, UT: Published by the Kimball Family. Printed at the Juvenile Instructor Office, 1888. First edition. Hardcover. 520pp. Octavo [24 cm] Blue cloth with gilt stamped title on the font board and backstrip. Good only. Ex-library. The spine and covers are lightly rubbed and soiled, and have multiple small stains. The spine ends and corners of the covers are bumped, and the underlying boards are exposed briefly along the edges. The cloth at the head of the spine is ever so slightly frayed, and there are a few small splits in the cloth at the foot of the spine. A library number has been rubbed out on the spine. There is a 1" crack in the front endsheet, along the hinge. The front pastedown has a library stamp, and a couple of notions in pen. There is a library pocket on the rear pastedown. Frontispieces of Heber C. Kimball and his wife Vilate are present, however the frontispiece of Vilate is completely detached. The tissue guard is almost completely detached. The Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith and Brigham Young portraits with are also present at the center. All of these illustrations have large, but light damp stains. Tanned pages. The pages have very occasional marginalia and small light stains, as well as small closed tears in the margins here and there. The longest closed tear is 1 1/4" inch long. Several corners have been turned down. The text block is cracked multiple times in the middle. The verso of the first frontispiece and the last page of the text are lightly soiled. The majority of the pages are quite clean. Biography of the Mormon leader by his grandson. Flake/Draper 9772.
