Compiled by a group of learned lamas in 1741-1742, the book's scope would spread beyond that of a dictionary, with its system of terms for five branches of Buddhist knowledge - philosophy, logic, linguistics, technology, and medicine. A recognized historical work, it would not be translated into a European language for over 200 years, until this edition.
