Description
New York: Random House, 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Near fine. Octavo (21 cm), pp. 4-471. Quarter black cloth over yellow boards, gilt-stamped titling. One of the remaindered copies of McCarthy's most autobiographical novel, this volume has an unclipped jacket which retains its brightness, but has a small closed tear on the rear panel. Boards are likewise clean and unbumped, though the text block has faint foxing on all sides. McCarthy's bibliographers, Paul Ford and Stephen Pastore, compare Suttree to Huckleberry Finn, finding the former more of a Heart of Darkness-style journey down the river, "a tragic story of dreams and aspirations gone awry." They continue, "When Suttree gets delirious with a fever, we see McCarthy at his best. The imaginary and dreamy landscape of Suttree's journey through the mountains of his fever-addled brain presages the magnificent and lyrical prose that so epitomizes Blood Meridian."

Description
n.p.: n.p., 1968. Very good +.. Infamous image of a personified Justice and Statue of Liberty being graphically assaulted by a gang of laughing police officers, under the eye of an American eagle. By the artist best known for his iconic woodcut of a clenched fist, an enduring image of the New Left used by anti-draft protestors, Black Panthers, and others. This image was also distributed in a better-known, larger poster that was described at a 1968 House Un-American Activities Committee hearing as "one of the most vile, obscene pieces of literature that I have seen disseminated in San Francisco" by Examiner reporter Edward S. Montgomery. Original print, 5.5'' x 8'' approx. Purple ink on heavy textured paper. Toning to edges; minor edgewear. Very good plus or better.
