Description
Washington DC, 1867. Good.. [8],411,[1],[1]pp. Contemporary three-quarter calf and brown pebbled cloth, leather label on front cover stamped in gilt. Spine mostly perished, with three portions of original spine (which include the gilt-stamped spine titles) re-attached with cello tape. Corners worn, mild rubbing. Both boards also holding by cello tape. Internally clean. The highly-desirable eighth volume of the records of volunteers in the United States Army during the years of the Civil War. Volume eight of the Official Army Register contains individual regimental histories, lists of officers, and casualty records for the officers of volunteer regiments emanating from the territories of Washington, New Mexico, Nebraska, Colorado, and Dakota, plus the Veteran Reserve Corps, the U.S. Veteran Volunteers, the First Army Corps, and the United States Colored Troops. About half of the overall work is devoted to the latter, totaling almost 180 pages, detailing the regimental histories, officer lists, casualty lists, and more for the officers of the U.S. Colored Cavalry, U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, U.S. Colored Light Artillery, and U.S. Colored Infantry. In addition to the regimental listings, the work contains an Appendix printing a "Supplemental list of casualties occurring subsequent to the printing of the text of this Register," a regimental Index, an "Index of Battles," an Index of troop names, an Errata leaf, and a publication breakdown of the complete eight-volume work. The only illustration in the entire work is a "Fac Simile of the Medal of Honor" following the title page. The Official Army Register was printed in eight volumes between 1865 and 1867. The first seven volumes printed details on the regiments and officer rosters of the U.S. volunteer troops organized by the states where they served, including Union regiments who served throughout the Confederate states. This last volume was devoted to the various territorial regiments and volunteers, veteran units, and officers of Black regiments. Commensurate with the way African Americans were treated generally, the officers of the Black troops were published last. Sabin 56761.

Description
[Easthampton, MA]: The Chamberlain Press, 1978. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Chamberlain, Sarah. One of 120 copies, sixmo size, 24 pp., signed by Sarah Chamberlain. Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm (1785-1863 and 1786-1859, respectively), known as the Brothers Grimm, have popularised European folk tales such as "Rapunzel", "Cinderella", "Sleeping Beauty", and "Snow White", stories that have been intrinsic parts of European and American literature, read and loved by children and adults alike, and adapted countless times in fiction writing, theatre, and film. This tale, "The Bremen Town Musicians", " tells the story of four aging domestic animals, who after a lifetime of hard work are neglected and mistreated by their former masters. Eventually, they decide to run away and become town musicians in the city of Bremen. Contrary to the story's title the characters never arrive in Bremen, as they succeed in tricking and scaring off a band of robbers, capturing their spoils, and moving into their house" (n.b., quote from Wiki). With detailed and lively illustrations by Sarah Chamberlain, proprietor of The Chamberlain Press, who works in several mediums including etchings, wood engravings, and watercolour. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in pastepaper over boards by Grey Parrot, printed in red and black throughout, with ten wood engravings (four full-page), signed in pencil by Chamberlain at the colophon; Goudy Bold type on Rives paper, sixmo size (6 1/2" by 5 1/8"), unpaginated with twelve printed leaves, this copy no. 63 of 120. ___CONDITION: Near fine, with clean boards, straight corners with miniscule rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; some very light wear to the boards and the joints, text block very slightly cocked. Still a lovely copy of a wonderfully-produced (albeit a bit fragile) book. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Description
New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2020. First edition. New in shrinkwrap. 11 x 9.5 inches. 180 pages. Profusely illustrated in color. Original pictorial boards. "masterworks, it includes both rare and iconic examples of works by photography's most renowned and influential artists, including Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Walker Evans, László Moholy-Nagy, Man Ray, and Cindy Sherman, as well as a diverse group of lesser-known practitioners who helped define photography in the 20th and early 21st centuries. Jeff Rosenheim's detailed and perceptive text addresses the avant-garde artists of the early decades of the 20th century, the changing role of the camera after the Second World War, the rise of the international market for fine photographic prints in the 1960s, the photography boom in the late 1970s, and the implications of calling this period the "last" century of photography. Exquisitely designed and produced, this book offers new insight on the development and significance of photography as an art form over the course of the past 100 years" (the publisher).

Description
New York: Farrar & Rinehart. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. (c.1933). Later Printing. Hardcover. [a nice tight clean copy, with just a touch of wear at the spine ends, remnant of old price sticker on rear pastedown; the jacket is lightly edgeworn, faintly soiling along the spine, and has a small closed tear and some associated creasing at the bottom edge of the front panel]. Novel set in the art and society world of New York City, about the widow of a renowned artist. "Daphne's husband had been a great artist. He died leaving her with two children. Returning from Paris and the artistic world, she comes to New York and is projected through old friends into Society and its contacts." In addition to her novelistic activities, the author knew the art world well, having studied in New York and Paris, and having "exhibited portraits at the Society of American Artists, the National Academy of Design, the Water Color Society, Paris Salon and the Royal Academy, London." (Quoted from her bio on the rear jacket panel.) This was her sixth published novel and, as it turned out, her last, although it was followed by a book of autobiographical reminiscences, "Ladies, Lovers and Other People," in 1935. .
