Description
Tall 8vo, leather spine and gilt lettered cloth, brad bound, 197 pp. (about half are blank for additions). Agreement for book is pasted down to back of front cover. Spine very rubbed, ends worn and chipped, corners showing, scattered penciled marks and drawings, normal aging,; about very good. This is a very unusual and rare finance item. Before Standard & Poor's and Moody's used letter ratings to indicate credit quality for businesses, the American Mercantile Union was doing credit ratings of their own. The key to the ratings is laid on rear pastedown, and includes ten designations, most of which are negative. The ratings are given for San Francisco area businesses. The book was basically rented for one year, and had to be returned after that time.

Description
Mexico City: January 15, 1784. Very good.. [3]pp. Folio on a folded sheet. Light soiling and wear. In 1783, Spain passed an expansive reform of mining laws in its colonial empire that centralized the industry under royal control. Amongst other measures, the new law created a guild of mine owners, the Real Cuerpo de Minería; a tribunal for resolving mining disputes and violations; a specific new bank for the mining interests and money only; and a privilege for the industry that exempted it from some general colonial law. The present decree, which accompanied the promulgation of the laws in New Spain on January 15, 1784, orders in no uncertain terms that its articles be followed to the letter by all colonial government officials, with no exception for custom, local practice, or tradition: "Se arreglan precisamente à ellas, executándolas y observándolas con la mayor exactitud en lo que corresponda à cada uno, teniendo todo lo contenido en ellas por Ley y Estatuto firme y perpetuo, y guardándolo y haciéndolo observar inviolablemente sin embargo de otras qualesquiera Leyes, Ordenanzas, Establemientos, costumbres ó practicas que hubiere en contrario, pues en quanto lo fueren las revoco expresamente, y quiero no tengan efecto alguno; prohibiendo, como prohibo, el que se interpreten ó glosen en ningun modo, porque es mi voluntad se esté precisamente á su letra y expreso sentido." It goes on to order that the law be distribute by bando to the relevant cities, towns, and mining centers, and threatens grave penalties for the violation of its terms. The order is signed in print by the Viceroy, Matias de Galvez. OCLC locates only two copies, at Texas A&M and the BNE.

Description
Milano: Società tipografica de' classici Italiani, 1828. Very Good. 23 cm; xxiii, [3], 548, [4] pages. Frontispiece mezzotint portrait of Bartolommeo Lorenzi. Bound in contemporary mottled sheep over marbled boards. Joints beginning to split at crown and heel. Occasional light stains. Not only do anthologies like this one provide a broad cross-section of a literary moment by including the work of many contemporary poets, but they also preserve the best work of minor poets that would otherwise be lost. This 19th-century tribute to the Age of Enlightenment immediately past includes works of Roberti, Lorenzi, Rezzonico, Mascheroni, Bettinelli, Frugoni, Bondi, Mazza, and Paradisi. It focuses on didactic poetry, a form in which the Enlightenment excelled, and epistolary poetry, which lends itself to the discursive tone so favored by the Illuministi.
