Wear, small chips and minor worming to margins of some leaves with no loss to text, occasional faint dampstaining to foot of text block. Light foxing and toning in places. A nice copy of an uncommon title. $1,350. * A significant later edition of this specialized anthology, bringing together the foremost Continental legal minds of the 16th and early 17th centuries. This volume functions as a thematic "greatest hits" regarding the complex laws of laudimia-the fines or fees paid by a vassal to a lord upon the alienation of a fief. Compiled by Francisco de Solsona, the work draws heavily from the massive 18-volume Tractatus Universi Juris (Venice, 1584-1586) published under the aegis of Pope Gregory XIII. The collection includes essential tracts by Amadeus de Ponte: A noted Piedmontese jurist, Antoine Favre (Antonio Faber), the celebrated Savoyard jurist known for his rationalist approach to Roman law, Bertrand d'Argentre, the influential Breton customary lawyer and Hartmann Pistor and Maurice Bourgeois, representing the Germanic and French traditions of civil and canon law. OCLC locates 5 copies of this edition, 1 in North America (at UC-Berkeley Law School). Universal Short-Title Catalogue 4006102.
