Description
London: Jonathan Cape, 1948. First edition thus. Hardcover. 263pp. Duodecimo [18 cm] Very good. Spine slightly cocked and faded. The spine ends are a bit discolored and bumped. There are several small indentations along the edges of the covers, and there are a few insignificant stains on the top edge of the text block. Light foxing on the endsheets. Tanned pages. The book is sturdy. The dust jacket is in very good condition. The edges are chipped, and have small closed tears. The longest closed tear is one inch long. Also age-toned and lightly rubbed. More heavily darkened at the spine, edges and folds. There are a few tiny stains on the front panel. Recknagel 441, Hagemann 71, Howard 3h, Farmer 19, Treverton 280. British movie edition of this classic B. Traven novel. Traven, one of the most elusive and mysterious novelists of the twentieth century, remains largely unknown despite the translation of his books into most major world languages. The majority of the English-speaking world knows Traven only through the movie version of "Treasure of the Sierra Madre," starring Humphrey Bogart.
