[Portland?, 1884. Broadside, 5-3/4" x 11-3/4". Printed in two columns separated by a rule. Near Fine. Chamberlain, the Hero of Gettysburg, and five other members of a Republican Committee in Portland refuse to vote for Thomas B. Reed for Congress, because he is not a friend of civil service reform, and because he refused to reappoint as Postmaster J.W. Crawford, a partially disabled Civil War veteran, fully qualified. Crawford had been Postmaster for one term, done an excellent job, and should have been reappointed. Reed was a powerful Congressman, and future Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Not located on OCLC or the online sites of AAS, U of ME, as of May 2025.
