Description
THE KINGDOM OF EARTH WITH HARD CANDY A BOOK OF STORIES, New Directions, 1954, first edition, very fine in just about fine publishers slip-case with some professional restoration to the spine of the slip-case. Of allegedly 100 SIGNED copies, this is copy #9 with numbered copies seemingly showing up less frequently than presentation copies. This title story was not included in the original simultaneous publication entitled HARD CANDY A BOOK OF STORIES. The actual number of copies extant is unknown. Apparently, the authors scarcest book to locate in first edition.

Description
1999. Tomlinson, Edward A. (Editor and Translator). The French Penal Code of 1994 as amended as of January 1, 1999. Fred B. Rothman & Co.: Littleton, Colorado, 1999. xxii, 278 pp. Publisher's black cloth bound hardcover with gilt stamped spine and front cover. New. $65. * Part of the prestigious American Series of Foreign Penal Codes (No. 31), this authoritative English translation provides a comprehensive look at one of the most significant legislative overhauls in modern European history. Replacing the Napoleonic Code of 1810, the 1994 Code introduced fundamental shifts in French legal philosophy, including the recognition of corporate criminal liability and the modernization of human rights protections. This edition features a scholarly introduction by Edward A. Tomlinson, providing essential context on the Code's structural innovations and its departure from classical doctrine. As a meticulously translated text current through the 1999 amendments, it serves as an indispensable tool for researchers analyzing civil law traditions, continental jurisprudence, and the evolution of penal sanctions.

Near Fine in Near Fine dj
Description
San Francisco: Robert D. Reed Publishers. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. (c.2000). First Edition. Hardcover. [nice copy with no discernible shelfwear, just a tiny bit of soiling on the front endpaper; the jacket shows a little bit of surface rubbing, minor wrinkling at top of front panel]. Fantasy/crime thriller set in Los Angeles (or, as it ought to be called in this book, Werewolf City). The plot features a couple of werewolves trying to solve a series of murders committed by their "fellow werewolves involved in the Los Angeles criminal underworld." One of the good-guy werewolves works as a dogcatcher, whose "success as an animal control officer for Los Angeles County stems from his own lycanthropic tendencies." (Ya gotta work with the hand you're dealt, I guess.) The author's jacket bio cites some of his influences: Ray Bradbury, Herman Hesse, C.S. Lewis, Tom Clancy, and Anne Rice. The narrative supposedly combines "European legend with the Native American tradition of shape-shifting." If Warren Zevon doesn't make a cameo appearance in this novel, I'm going to be very disappointed. .
