Volume one covers Africa and Asia, volume two the Americas. Contributors include Selous, Samuel Baker, Neumann, Sheldon, Pike, Theodore Roosevelt, and the editor, among others. An important association copy, each volume inscribed by the editor: "To Mrs. Charles Sheldon, With the greatest admiration for her husband's work, and many thanks for permission to include some of it herein.
