Description
Providence (Rhode-Island): Printed by Bennett Wheeler, and Sold at his OFFICE, on the West Side of the Great-Bridge, 1782. 12mo, 32pp, stitched. Uniformly toned. Several astronomical illustrations, Very Good. Housed in an attractive, modern, half-brown morocco slipcase, with the bookplate of Elisha Whipple McGuire, late 19th century New York lawyer and book collector. This year's North-American Calendar prints the "Treaty of Alliance, Eventual and Defensive," between France "and the Thirteen United States of America." As the Almanac's preface to the Treaty states, it cements "the Union of the States of America" with "the French Nation, by which we are connected with that Power in the strictest Bands of national Union and Friendship:- May God long continue." A Table of Coins is included, along with tables of road distances and the other usual almanac components. This is one of two 1782 Providence printings by Wheeler [the other one "for Henry Barber, and sold by him at his office on the Parade, Newport"]. It includes Wheeler's notice, dated 11 November 1782, "That he has removed his OFFICE to the House formerly occupied by Capt. Gid. Manchester." Evans 17796. Alden 901. Drake 12869.

Description
Los Angeles: Archaia, 2016. First printing. Hardcover. vg. Quarto (10 1/2 x 7"). Unpaginated. Original half orange cloth over illustrated paper covered boards, with black lettering to spine and front cover. Ribbon marker. Original drawing in silver and black ink from Vincenzo Balzano covering both the inside of the front cover and the front free endpaper, and depicting the little boy riding his giant flying wolf. The drawing is inscribed and signed by both the author and the artist. "“WHAT IS A WISH?” That is the question the boy must answer for himself as he and his wolf, Cloud, embark on a grand voyage to find the boy’s father and return the wish that was stolen from him. "The Cloud" is a beautiful, and at times, heartbreaking journey of a reluctant hero forced to outwit a cast of colorful characters: a thieving girl, bizarre creatures from the Great Before, and the Mad King. It's a quest of self-discovery where the boy will learn that not all wishes can or should come true. Fans of Kazu Kibuishi’s Amulet or the beloved children’s fantasy "The Never Ending Story" will delight in "The Cloud." A grand adventure story filled with unexpected allies and enemies alike, "The Cloud" beautifully examines themes of strength, bravery, love, and loss." (From the Publishers). Binding and interior in very good condition.
