Description
London: The Jewish Historical Society of England, 1932. First edition. Softcover. g to vg. Quarto. xxxvi, 134, li, 347 (1), 349-509 (1)pp. Original gray wraps with black lettering on cover and spine. Two frontispieces. "This edition of Hebrew Starrs (printed by permission of the Authorities of the British Museum) has, as its special feature, accompanying Latin and other characters, which illustrate the circumstances under which arose the transactions to which the Starrs refer. The Starrs themselves have already been issued in the excellent collection of Shetaroth by the late Mr. M. D. Davis and in the scholarly British Museum Catalogue compiled by the late Rev. G. Margoliouth. Here they are accompanied by a translation, as well as by charters and deeds which passed in the legal dealings with the individuals or Monasteries which had transactions with the Jews." Illustrated with fine photographic reproductions of documents, signets, and some maps, one of them fold-out. Volume three indices. All volumes with some sunning along edges and spines. Vol. 1 with small chip at upper left corner of back cover and free endpaper. Vol. 2 with slim one and a half inch chip at top of front cover at spine. Wraps in overall good, interiors in very good condition.
