Large 8vo. a-e8, i4, A-2E8, a-h8 [40], 440, [122] pp. Engraved vignette on title page, Printed in black and red throughout with occasional specimens of four-line Gregorian chant (black notes on red staves). Each month starts with woodcut initials, the individual days with red initials. Index. Contemporary full calf, spine tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers. Old owner's signature to first free endpapers,a few early pencil notes to a rear blank. Hinges and corners neatly repaired else a very good copy. The Martyrologium Romanum is a catalog of saints and blesseds recognized by the Catholic Church. It serves as an official liturgical document recording their feast days and providing brief accounts of their lives and deaths. This editon was Issued by authority of Pope Urban VIII, but subsequent to the order of Gregory XIII, whose Calendar, promulgated in 1582, required minor changes to the Martyrology. Rare edition of the Martyrology. .
