A reback-worthy set with an interesting provenance. $500. * Only edition. d'Aguesseau was an important magistrate, parliamentarian and judge during the time of Louis XIV and XV. A pupil of Jean Domat, he served two terms as chancellor of France in 1717-1722 and 1727-1750. Edited by Pardessus, this sixteen-volume critical edition collects most of his work. The contents of this set deal mostly with legal matters, but several pieces relate to politics and diplomacy. This copy belonged to the "Pages du Roi, Versailles," a library in the Versailles Palace at the time of King Louis XVIII [1755-1824].
