Description
Royal College of Art: The Lion and Unicorn Press, 1954. Limited Edition. Quarto. No pagination. Limited to 100 copies. The present copy is number 7. Inscription from Arthur Houghton for Robin Darwin, a British artist and Rector of the Royal College of Art and son of the British artist golf writer Bernard Darwin and his wife the engraver Elinor Monsell. This book was a technical exercise to enable those students taking part, the illustrators, the typographers, the designers, and the book binders to face the problems, both aesthetic and technical, which only arise in acute and realistic with an actual production job. The Lion and Unicorn Press was started at the Royal College of Art. This is their fourth book. A few stories included, Trollop's The Last Chronicles of Barset; Dicken's Oliver Twist; Flaubert's Madam Bovary; Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and others. Bound in marbled paper covered boards, paper label printed in black, some wear along spine and corners. A very good copy of this scarce work.
