Description
Boston: For the Booksellers, 1804. First edition. 79, [1]pp. LAST LEAF IN FACSIMILE. 8vo. Later marbled wrappers. First edition. 79, [1]pp. LAST LEAF IN FACSIMILE. 8vo. "The first trade catalogue of books in the United States, of which very few copies are known" (Streeter). The title continues: "This catalogue is intended to include all books of general sale printed in the United States, whether original or reprinted; that the public may see the rapid progress of book-printing in a country where, twenty years since, scarcely a book was published. Local and occasional tracts are generally omitted. Some few of the books in this Catalogue are now out of print; and others are scarce. It is contemplated to publish a new edition of this Catalogue every two years, and to make the necessary additions and corrections; and it is hoped the time is not far distant, when useful Libraries may be formed of American editions of Books, well printed, and handsomely bound." "The remarkable thing about this catalogue is that it was the very first bibliographical attempt at a general catalogue, in separate form, in America. It is quite interesting as an early American booksellers' list of American publications, as well as for its classification ... The fact that no subsequent issues of this catalogue appeared, evinces the very small interest in bibliographic knowledge in those early days. This curiosity of early American bibliography gives the titles of 1338 books, all of American publication, with prices in 1804" (Spofford, A Book for All Readers, p. 479) The work was reprinted in 1898 for the Dibdin Club and at that time only three examples were known. Scarce in the trade, with the last example at auction being the Streeter copy in 1969. Sabin 11486; Shaw & Shoemaker 5987; Streeter sale 4319

Description
London: Methuen & Co. Ltd., 1922. The Infamous Fifteenth Volume - Wilde's 'Lost' Play That Wasn't" WILDE, Oscar. For Love of the King. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd., [1922]. Limited to 1,000 copies. Small quarto (8 3/8 x 5 3/4 inches; 213 x 146 mm.). [vi, blank], [xiv], 1-39, [1, blank], [4, blank] pp. Handsomely bound in three-quarter black morocco over gray marbled boards, covers ruled in gilt, spine with five raised bands, lettered in gilt in compartments, gray marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, others uncut. With the Ex Libris bookplate of Charles Bauman on the front paste-down. Housed in a black morocco edged cloth slipcase. An unusually fine, well-preserved copy, enhanced by an attractive later morocco binding. The notorious "fifteenth volume" of the Methuen collected works of Wilde. Originally issued in 1908 in fourteen volumes, the set was unexpectedly augmented in 1922 by the addition of For Love of the King, presented by the publisher as a newly discovered Wilde play. The claim was quickly met with skepticism, and the work is now generally regarded as spurious or, at best, of highly doubtful attribution. Despite this, Methuen produced the volume in uniform style with the earlier set, encouraging its assimilation into complete runs. The text itself - a "Burmese Masque" - differs markedly in tone and quality from Wilde's authenticated dramatic works, further contributing to the controversy surrounding its authorship. Long considered one of the more curious episodes in Wilde bibliography An essential - and somewhat mischievous - addition for collectors of the Methuen Wilde.

Description
Derby, CT: Charlton Publishing Corp, 1970. Original wraps. Very Good +. A nice run of the monthly rock magazine "Hit Parader", including all of the issues (all 11) from 1970 except the August issue. Each issue is crisp and VG+ to Near Fine in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with very light creasing at a number of the panels. Internally, each issue is clean as could be, with no writing or markings to speak of. Well-known for its in-depth, well-chosen articles and its high-quality black-and-white photography, "Hit Parader" was clearly a notch or two above the average fanzine of the era.
