Description
1921. Framed. Fine. A lovely watercolor, with pen-and-ink, painting by Whistler, who was a consummate illustrator, known for his murals and posters, as well as his book illustration, not to mention his career as a highly successful Society portrait artist. The work is attractively matted and framed. The watercolor measures 18 by 23 cm. With frame, 46.5 by 62 cm. The artwork evokes the eighteenth century, as did much of Whistler's work as a book illustrator.

Description
New York and Akron, Ohio: The Saalfield Publishing Co, 1928. First edition. Stiff Wraps. Near Fine. Squarish 4to, 26.5 by 26 cm. Unpaginated, 12 leaves, with printing only on rectos. Unusual notion, in which the "reader" is instructed to cut out a section of the page along a dotted line. Revealed is a plane, a part of the picture from the leaf beneath, which then completes the top image. The only page without such a dotted line is the last one, and this because there is no picture below it. The book comes with a cut-out window already created on the front cover. This, as in the case of all the windows, is in the shape of a plane, and the image borrowed from the base sheet is of a plane. In our copy, none of the cut-outs were made and thus the book is essentially in an unused state, although there is a faint ownership inscription, dated 1928, on the front cover. The pages are age toned, as per the cheap paper used. Otherwise, fine condition.
