Description
Vancouver: Partisan Party, 1972. The Party emerged from the Vancouver Liberation Front in 1971, becoming an explicitly Marxist-Leninist organization. By November 1972, some of its leaders decided to merge with the Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist), and the Partisan Party was dissolved. This archive was preserved by David Jette, who played a leading role in the group (and later felt embarrassed for his role in pushing the Party into the CPC-ML). It includes a complete run of the group's newspaper, The Partisan (13 issues and three supplements), and a neatly organized file of internal documents, 8 linear inches. These files include handwritten central committee minutes, extensive correspondence, material on relations with other organizations (including enemies such as the Youngbloods, accused of stealing a mimeograph machine and printing supplies), and documentation of the group's formation and dissolution, together with some retrospective assessments by members. An interesting overview from beginning to end of one of Canada's short-lived Marxist-Leninist groups of the 1970s. We would be happy to address further inquiries about specific contents.

Description
146 pages with diagrams, tables and 8 plates of the participants. Octavo (8 7/8" x 6"). bound in original publisher's quarter black cloth with red boards with a black and white pictorial cover. [signed by Max Euwe] Dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Max Euwe Chess Club of Amsterdam tipped on front paste down. (Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 5574) First edition. The A.V.R.O. 1938 was a double-round tournament held in November 1938 under the sponsorship of the Dutch wireless company, Algemene Verenigde Radio Omroep. The participants, Alekhine, Botvinnik, Capablanca, Euwe, Fine, Flohr, Keres and Reshevsky, included the reigning World Champion and all his potential challengers. The sponsors intended the event to be regarded as an unofficial Candidates tournament, and the winner (or the runner-up in the case of a victory by Alekhine) was promised financial backing for a World Championship match. For a tournament of such importance, the playing conditions were appalling. The players traveled through Holland, ten venues in different towns were used, and on playing days the competitors were often forced to miss dinner. These circumstances naturally favored the younger grandmasters at the expense of Alekhine and Capablanca. The final scores were: Keres and Fine 8 1/2, Botvinnik 7 1/2, Alekhine, Reshevsky and Euwe 7, Capablanca 6, Flohr 4 1/2. The tie for first place was broken in favor of Keres, who had the superior Sonneborn-Berger rating. The projected match between Alekhine and Keres did not take place, since Alekhine had already contracted to defend his title first against Flohr, who was the official FIDE World Championship challenger. Alekhine did promise to play a subsequent match against Keres if he retained the title, but the start of the Second World War terminated all negations. One of the best, possibly the best of the tournament was Bottvinnik's game v Capablanca [Golombek: p20].ConditionCorners bumped and rubbed, sunning to heal edges. A very good copy issued without a dust jacket.

Description
Amsterdam: Frederik Muller & Cie, 1906. Softcover. G- (Missing the back cover and perhaps 4 plates or one plate page; front cover and first flyleaves have heavy wear and soiling and age; plate pages have just lightly tanned edges.). Brown paper and cardboards wraps, 4 text pp., 56 BW plates on 49 pages. Text is in French. Issued in conjunction with a 1906 exhibition of 17th-century Dutch Masters paintings, held on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth. This is a book solely of BW plates of about half of the 125 paintings in the exhibition. The preface seems to indicate the presence of 60 plates. This copy has 56 plates on 49 pages. Other copies have 50 plate pages. So at least one is missing here. Still a nice selection and an uncommon catalogue.

Description
New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1927 Early edition. Publisher's three-quarter black cloth and blue paper-covered boards with white paper spine label lettered in black. About very good with some light wear to extremities, toning to spine and page edges, both hinges starting, small bookseller's sticker to front free endpaper. Presents well. Yost 31. The King's Henchman is a story inspired by the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, a set of manuscripts written in the ninth century that detail the history of the Anglo-Saxons in England. Millay's story tells of the travels of Aethelwold, a henchman to the fictional king of England, who falls in love with the woman that the king is supposed to marry and finally kills himself out of guilt for denying them both a marriage to each other. This story was first written as the libretto for an opera commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. American composer Deems Taylor enlisted Millay as his librettist upon the suggestion from his wife. The opera went on to be staged sixteen times at the Met, as well in 46 other cities, and received praise from critics and audiences.. Hard Cover. Very Good.
