Tampa, Florida: The Tampa Daily Times, 1924. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to 11" - 13" tall; 11 5/8" x 8 1/2". String tied faux black leater over thick boards, titles stamped in black, Seal of the State of Florida in gold on front cover. 201 pages. A fantastic marketing piece for South Florida, meant to be distributed throughout the country to entice business and families to emigrate. The book had three stated goals: to prove to grain and stock farmers of the Corn and Wheat belts that Florida was a more profitable place to produce; that it's a wonderful place to live; to promote the movers and shakers of the area. Dozens of photos accompany a detailed portrayal of the present economic circumstances, a history of Tampa, writeups on Kissimmee, Lakeland, Tarpon Springs, Winter Haven and more. There are also a couple dozen biographies of prominent folks including the Ringling Brothers, John and Charles. A comprehensive look at South Florida commerce in the years before the Depression. OCLC records 16 locations; one other in internet commerce (ours in far better condition) as of April 2016. Condition: Very good plus: lightly worn and dust soiled boards with some exposure at corners; pages unmarked and odor free; small 1/4" x 1/8" loss to upper inner margin of front free endpaper and first (blank) leaf; several pages with insignificant foxing. ABOUT THIS BOOK: I have endeavored, in the following essay upon Micro-organisms, to show that psychological phenomena begin among the very lowest classes of beings, they are met with in every form of life from the simplest cellule to the most complicated organism. It is they that are the essential phenomena of life, inherent in all protoplasm. We admit, accordingly, the existence of a vitalism, that is to say, of an aggregate of properties which properly pertain to living matter and which are never found in inanimate substances. Among these properties of life we classify psychological phenomena.(American Psychological Association) Alfred Binet was a French psychologist best known for developing the first practical intelligence test. Born in 1857, Binet's work in psychology focused on understanding human intelligence and cognitive development. In 1905, he, along with his colleague Théodore Simon, created the Binet-Simon scale, which was designed to identify children in need of special educational assistance. This test became the foundation for modern intelligence testing, leading to the development of the IQ (Intelligence Quotient) concept. Binet's work was pioneering in the field of educational psychology, and his contributions have had a lasting impact on how intelligence is measured and understood.
