Description
New York: B. W. Huebsch, 1919. First Edition. Near Fine/Very Good. First edition, first issue with unbroken title page rule; "lay" for "lie" on page 86, line 5; and broken type of the word "the" on page 251, line 3. [x], 303 pp. Bound in publisher's canary yellow cloth, paper title label to spine, yellow topstain, map printed to front pastedown. Near Fine with light wear and soiling to cloth and topstain, darkening to rear joint. Offsetting from jacket to free endpapers, bookplate to front free endpaper, and light toning to contents. In the scarce dust jacket, Very Good with sunned spine panel, moderate wear and soiling to exposed panels, and several tape repairs. Price on spine crossed out and new price written in ink below. Bruccoli & Clark, Vol. 2 p. 14. The first appearance of the acclaimed collection of modernist short stories centered around a small Ohio town, in much better than average condition. The book was published during the transitional period when jackets had been adopted but were disposable, intended only to protect the cloth before the sale. This jacket advertises Winesburg as a masterwork "in which people's very souls are bared." The legendary critic H.L. Mencken agreed: "It is so vivid, so full of insight, so shiningly life-like and glowing, that the book is lifted into a category all its own.

Paris: Chez Dero-Becker, 1840. The Military Costumes of France Forty-Two Superb Hand Colored Lithographs by Victor Adam ADAM, Victor. Collection des Costumes Militaires, Armée Francaise 1832, Représentés dans des Sujets de Genre. Lithographie par V. Adam. Paris: Chez Dero-Becker, [ca. 1840]. First edition. Oblong folio (10 7/8 x 14 1/4 inches; 278 x 362 mm.). Forty-two superb hand colored lithograph plates, all heightened with gum arabic. Bound by the Atelier Bindery for Charles Scribners Sons in three-quarter red morocco over red cloth boards. Spine with five raised bands lettered in gilt in second compartment, marbled endpapers. Original pictorial lithograph wrapper on front paste-down. A fine complete copy of Adam's military costumes of France, with superb original hand-coloring. This rare French work on military costume was issued without text, save for a wrapper title, a portion of which appears with this copy mounted to the front pastedown. Description
Warren, Ohio, 1912. Broadside, 6-3/4" x 10-1/4." Uniformly browned, a few light chips to blank upper margin. Very Good. The Ohio Woman Suffrage Association, founded in Cincinnati in 1869, was one of the earliest state-level suffrage organizations. It was active for several decades. Like the NAWSA, the group defined itself as moderate, condemning the picketing actions of the National Woman's Party. Offered here is a poster from the campaign in favor of Constitutional Amendment no. 23 in 1912, which would have granted suffrage to women had it passed. Not located on OCLC as of March 2024.
