Description
New York: Random House, 1936. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 12mo., 241(2)pp. Beautiful First Edition of this biography and tribute to General Winfield Scott. Bound in red cloth with titles in white on front board and spine. Decorative illustration on front board. Square, tight and clean throughout with no toning or foxing. Some minor wear to spine ends and some spots of fading along edges. Remarkably fresh and bright. Very attractive and scarce example of a very early 20th century dust-jacket. Unclipped, though unpriced, ($1.00 Net on spine panel), it has some chipping to spine ends. Front panel toned though it look more like off-setting than fading. Some rubbing to hinges. Still solid with no tears or creases and impossible to find in any condition. A very pretty collectable copy of a quite uncommon title, particularly with its scarce dust-jacket.

Description
Providence: Bennett Wheeler, 1784. [32] of [36] ]pp. Lacking one leaf before the JANUARY entry; and one leaf after the description of Georgia. Stitched. Defective as described. Alden records two states: Ours, State A, has the phrase "for the year of Lord Christ" in the title, and the subtitle "Roads" at page [33]; State B prints "for the year of our Lord Christ," and, at page [33], "A List of Roads." In addition to the usual astronomical data, a three-page "General Description of America" is printed. Each of the thirteen States is described, as is the geography of "this great western continent, frequently denominated the New World." Tables of coinage value and scales of depreciation are also included, along with the Roads and distances. Bennett Wheeler advertises himself at the bottom of the last page. Evans 18881. Drake 12882. Alden 978, State A.
