Very Good in a Good Alvin Lustig-designed dust jacket, unclipped ($2.75), unevenly faded, chipped at the folds and edges, stamped "H.B." on the front flap. Lavender paper on the boards, rubbed and bumped at the bottom edges, faded matching the chips to the jacket. Square and firmly bound, clean internally. Famously adapted into the 1951 Elia Kazan film starring Barlon Brando and Vivien Leigh.

Near Fine
Description
Hanover and York, Pennsylvania, 1908. Softcover. Near Fine. Large oblong octavo. Approximately 11" x 7.5". Cloth over flexible card wrappers. 242 gelatin sliver photographs measuring between 2.25" x 2.25" and 4.75" x 3.5". Almost all are captioned, mostly with printed phrases clipped from magazines or newspapers, a number by hand in white album ink. Light wear at the extremities of the wrappers, else near fine. The images are about fine with some light sunning. The album documents the adventures of a number of young women at a not-clearly-identified college in Southern Pennsylvania, possibly the York College of Pennsylvania. Despite the captions, some confusion exists as to the identity of the school, exacerbated somewhat by the women's tendency to decorate their dorm rooms with pennants from many other institutions. It does seem clear that the school was in proximity to York and Hanover, Pennsylvania. A few images of family members are present, as well as a few of recreations off-campus, but the vast majority are of young women posing on campus and both in their dorm rooms and in front of the building (several of the building bedecked with banners and flags for commencement), in costumes, dressed as Regency dandies, posing with tennis equipment, in formal dresses with flowers, with cameras, on boats (including two of a visit to a battleship), and otherwise happily comporting themselves. While a few men make an appearance in the album, the vast majority of the images are of college women at school. A nice, relatively early album of women at college with few men in evidence.
