1976. unbound. These letters were written on greeting cards and her personal stationery, six with handwritten envelopes, various formats, 1976 to 1979, at a time when she was preparing for her new role as a grandparent while also trying to overcome the loss of her mother, who had introduced her to the world of show business at the age of 12 in Atlantic City. No matter what her circumstances, she still manages to convey her sense of humor and/or appreciation in each letter -- a quality that made her one of the most beloved actresses in Hollywood. A small sampling of this correspondence includes the following passages: December 30, 1976: "Birthdays to Peter & Lynda [her son from her marriage to Glenn Ford]...only three more weeks and I'll be a grandmother -- baby due on Jan. 15th -- I am so thrilled & looking foreword to the big event." June 6, 1977: "I'm feeling somewhat better every day -- but still miss mother so much -- we were so close -- I go to the cemetery every week with flowers -- perhaps time will heal." June 1978: "I may of worn tails...but I'm still a girl -- Ha Ha...I had a terrific day -- 12 flower arrangements -- some from Berlin, England, Scotland & Australia -- I am truly blessed and am so grateful..." June 28, 1979: "Last week took Aubrey to Disneyland and what fun we had. I didn't know who had a better time -- grandma or Aubrey." August 1979: "No, I suppose I wouldn't know Atlantic City anymore -- I have a friend there who keeps me informed of all the changes. I did enjoy the clipping you sent me under construction, etc. -- Wow! All those gambling casinos...Las Vegas better look out...Lynda is pregnant again & due around December 11th or so -- so I%u2019ll be a grandma twice now. So - - - just as I thought I'd be through with 'Pampers'...here I go again in full force. Ha-Ha." Overall this archive is in very good condition. American actress and dancer best remembered for her exuberant solo tap numbers in musical films of the 1930s and 1940s.
