Description
New York: Samuel Wood & Sons, 1827. Very Good. New York: Samuel Wood & Sons, 1827. First English Language Edition. Octavo (22.5cm.); slightly later half sheep over marbled boards, brown gilt-lettered spine label; [2],viii,219pp.; five lithographic plates. Slightly ex-Cornell with their discreet markings, boards a bit rubbed and leather dried, else Very Good, internally fine. First published in Paris shortly before the author's early death, in 1823, at the age of thirty. In the early decades of the nineteenth-century cauterization was the favored method of unblocking urethral strictures, and Ducamp's carrier design was one of the most popular and least harmful to the patient. As the Institute of France wrote on the occasion of its original publication: "The work of M. Ducamp leaves us now nothing to wish for" (cf. Translator's Preface, p. [vii]). Not in Garrison and Morton or Osler.
