Description: New York: The Architectural Catalog Company, 1925. Original wraps. Very Good. Scarce, early monograph on the renowned Chicago architecture firm Holabird & Roche, circa 1925. Crisp and VG in its light-brown wrappers, with light chipping to the spine ends (1" of loss at the base) and mild creasing along the edges. Neat, small former owner signature as well (very lightly written) at the front panel's top-edge. Internally very clean, with no writing or markings to speak of. Dozens of crisp black-and-white photos throughout, showcasing much of the firm's commerical work up through the mid 20s --including regal hotels, golf clubs, stadiums, banks, etc.-- in the Chicago area. Folio, page after page of wonderful local, architecture-themed ads at the rear.

Description: Stockholm: Albert Bonnier. Lithography: Em Baerentzen & Co. Cloth. Near Fine. Unusually bright, handsome copy of this work of Swedish genre art, with each painting telling a story that epitomizes an aspect of Swedish life and culture at the time. Folio, 38.5 by 26 cm. 17 double paged chromolithographic color plates, with long descriptions of each provided on two folding sheets following the particular plate. The descriptions are in given in Swedish, French, German and English, with a large fold-out page containing three columns given over to a description in one of the languages. Subjects include timber-floating, offerings in a country church, hay-making, a wedding dance, flax-dressing, bear hunting, home weaving, grindstone making, young militia men, a servant's fair, etc. Wallander (1821-1888) was also known for portrait and historical paintings. He spent a substantial part of his career as a member of the Swedish art colony based in the German city, Düsseldorf, but he did end in career back in Stockholm. Light wear to the binding.

Engraved invitation card (2.75" by 4"), finished in contemporary ink, inviting medical student Abram Arndt to a series of midwifery lectures given by W. Willoughby, M.D. at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Western District of New York. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Western District of New York was chartered in 1812, and was based in Fairfield, New York. It was renamed Fairfield Medical College and offered physicians education in "anatomy, pharmacy, medicine, surgery, and obstetrics" (Wikipedia). Westel Willoughby, Jr. (November 20, 1769 - October 3, 1844) was a U.S. Representative from New York. Born in Goshen, Connecticut, Willoughby moved to Newport, New York. He studied medicine and engaged in practice. He was appointed judge of the court of common pleas of Herkimer County in 1805 and served until 1821. He served as president of the Herkimer County Medical Society 1806-1816 and 1818-1836. He served in the State assembly in 1808 and 1809. He served as president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons for the Western District of New York 1812-1844.

A bright and finely produced 16mo valentine, made from lace paper, and embossed victorian scrap. A piece of orange paper peeks through the spaces in the lace paper, which includes a pictorial scene: a pastoral church, with couple strolling nearby. The lace paper has been heightened with gilt, and is still very bright. Inside, the sender has written sweet lines of verse in pencil: "Come let us now resolve at last to live and love in quiet will tie the knot so very fast that time cannot untie it". Measures approx. 4" by 2.75
