Description
1906. Paperback. Near Fine. Maroon heavy cardstock wraps, bound with thin maroon rope; oblong (250x143 mm); contains 19 black leaves, each with 1-3 b/w or sepia photographs (silver gelatin prints) tipped to the recto only; 35 photographs total (one of which is loosely laid-in), ranging in size from 92x42 to 75x92 mm, each labelled by hand in white ink. Each photograph is so expertly composed, exposed, printed, and mounted, that one must wonder if it's the work of a professional -- with none of the wrinkling, offsetting, or staining so often associated with adhesive. Covers scuffed, bending; an image or two a bit silvered; otherwise fine. Beautiful street- and landscapes of Lucerne and the surrounding environs, including cathedrals, promenades, hotels, lakes, views on and from the Rigi, the Axenstrasse, William Tell's monument in Altdorf (erected in 1895, so relatively new at the time of this album's creation), Pilatus, the Devil's Bridge, and more. A few photographs show people, offering a nice look at gentlemen's suits and ladies' full skirts and hats -- including a charming image of two ladies seated on a cow a the Rigi summit. Wonderful.
