Description
(Vancouver, British Columbia): Tanks (William Hoffer), 1987. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Quarto size, 207 pp. Elizabeth Smart (1913-1986), poet and novelist, is best remembered today for the book she wrote about her romance with George Barker, "By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept". Her first poem was published when she was just ten years old and she would eventually produce nine books of poetry and novels. After her death in 1986, upon her cottage being sold, "an unsuspected mass of letters, diaries, scrapbooks and MSS was discovered. This book has been compiled by some of Elizabeth's friends in an effort to imply the autobiography that she did not live to write" (Introduction, p. 5). ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full blue cloth over boards, paper label with black lettering mounted into a debossed rectangle on the front board, matching spine label, decorated endpapers, photographs of various letters and diary pages throughout; binding quarto size (11 1/4" by 7 5/8"), pagination: [1-4] 5-204 [205, photograph] [1, blank] [1, colophon], limited edition, this no. 54 of 100 copies "bound in linen", total edition 250 numbered copies. ___CONDITION: Fine overall, the boards clean (other than a few very light, stray marks on the back board), straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; crisp and appears unread. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
